Spiritual warfare. A real thing that we fight every. single. day. Satan has one goal… to bring Christians down in any way he can. Satan is constantly at work, but his schemes WILL come to nothing when we stand against him with the power of our God. God has equipped us to fight these battles.
So what are we equipped with? The armor of God. But I want to capitalize on something else… what God commands us to do in the face of warfare. Ephesians 6:13 says, “Take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.” David Guzik says that “without the strength of God and the protection of spiritual armor, it is impossible to stand against the attacks of spiritual enemies… When Satan attacks, we are to stand.”
Stand. One word that holds so much meaning. It indicates so much. And David Guzik makes these points of what the word “stand” really indicates:
- It means we ARE going to be attacked
- It means that we must not be frightened
- It means that we are at our position and alert
- It means that we must not droop or slouch; nor be uncertain or half-hearted in the fight
- It means that we do not give even a thought to retreat.
We are not called to go into spiritual warfare on the behalf of our good God… we are already in it. And, yes, we will be attacked. But we are still to stand firm and fight.
This is not easy. God equipped us but that doesn’t mean it will be easy. But the battle has already been won. What good news! Jesus died on the cross and conquered the devil, therefore, our battles have already been won. Satan has been defeated.
